About ZoukNerds

All of it can be taught

I spent my first years copying shapes I didn’t understand, because I was the slow learner in the room and watching was never going to be enough for me. Brazilian Zouk grew fast and mostly by ear, so a lot of it never got written down: the connection, the safety, the teaching itself, even the economics of keeping a scene alive. We’re writing it down now, out loud, for anyone who dances, teaches, or holds a community together.

The Podcast

Every week we take one thing the dance world treats as settled and pull it apart, and it hasn’t cost a listener a cent since we started in 2020.

The Academy

The structured path, seven stages of it, and the part still being built. It has its own page because the order matters.

Events

Bootcamps, weekenders and retreats pitched at where a dancer actually is, plus BraZouky, our annual fundraising festival, which pays for The Dream scholarships so that young dancers who could not otherwise train, do.

Writing

The longer thinking that won’t fit inside an episode goes on Substack.

What we believe

Five things we keep coming back to, and none of them are about being impressive.
  • Vegetables over sugar. The basics are the whole thing: soltinho, lateral, viradinha, not the trick you saw on Instagram.
  • Safety is the skill, not a limitation on it. A movement that hurts your partner’s neck isn’t advanced, it’s broken.
  • Longevity over virality. We’d rather you were still dancing in thirty years than impressive next month.
  • Sustainability over hustle. Burnout is a design failure and not a badge, and pace is a skill like any other, which I learned by quitting twice.
  • No gatekeeping. If it works, it’s safe, and it respects your partner, it’s valid. Being Brazilian doesn’t make you right, and not being Brazilian doesn’t make you wrong.
